WAS : To begin with, can you introduce yourself ?
Patrick Siech : I'm a 28 year old engineer. Sounds boring to you? Well it does to me too, that's why I make music instead.
WAS : Can you explain how did you come to make music ?
P. S. : I've listened to electronic music for as long as I can remember, and when Rebirth for PC arrived in 1997 I started to play with that, cooking some acid on my schools computers. Then I started to buy hardware and play around with that for a while, making music just for fun while I went to school. It's always been just for fun, especially fiddling with the machines and software learning the production bit. So far I've made music using hardware, Rebirth, Reason, Cubase, Logic and Ableton Live. So I'm a huge nerd when it comes down to the technique bit...
WAS : What is the musical style you find the nearest to yours ? Which artist(s) inspires you?
P.S : Well it all varies a lot, but currently I would say I'm inspired by the really old techno music, the cold super-electronic but yet soulful vibes that comes from a lot of the Detroit produces like Robert Hood and Carl Craig. The guys who (when they're not using old disco samples) know how to make intelligent electronic music, still putting a lot of heart into the process.
Still, I'm not one of those guys hanging on to the oldskool sound, staying true to analogue hardware gear and stuff like that, but I try to take a lot of those influences and putting them into a modern sound and groove. Sometimes techier, sometimes houseier...
WAS : And what do you do when you do not make music ?
P. S. : Right now I'm building a second studio together with Per Hammar and Gustav Söllscher (from Söllscher und Siech), we got kicked out of our current one since we've kept scaring the neighbours at night... But this one is an old boiler room in a basement right below a really sleasy pub, so i think we're safe this time !
WAS : How did your collaboration with Per Hammar in your last EP titled DOME / HOT MESS ? how did you meet Per ? Can you talk to me about DOME ?
P. S. : Per is one of my closest friends, we share the same studio space and play together in clubs over here quite often. When i got Dome signed to Gregor, he wanted one more track besides the dark Nima Khak remix, to balance the release. So i asked Per if he wanted to team up on the B-side we combined his housey beats with my spacey synths, and Hot Mess was the result.
WAS : Do you remember the first time you played?
P. S. : Yeah it was a huge night actually. I played warmup for Minilogues first live-gig ever, it must have been in 2002. They live in the same city as I, Malmö, and hosted a monthly club night at a big night club. I crapped my pants of nervosity. Amazing night.
WAS : You have travelled Sweden and played quite a lot, which date is your best musical memory ?
P. S. : A Fever Ray concert in 2009 together with my girlfriend is one of my best musical memories ever! Club wise I've had amazing times at my first own club Discobedience in my home town... We brought electronic dance music to a town that had no scene, and people were like crazy. We kept going for 2,5 years, and we quit when we were at the peak. The final night is one of the best gigs I've ever had...
WAS : Do you have any plans for the future you would like to tell us about ?
P. S. : I'm currently putting together a new release for Drumcode which I'm pretty excited about! Also I'm making a few remixes here and there. Just finished a remix for Break New Soil which turned out great! it'll be out really soon.
WAS : Do you have any resolutions for 2011 ?
P. S. : Since I'm now pretty much into techno full time: "Survive or die trying"...
WAS : The last but not the least... Anything to add ?
P. S. : Stay black. Or die trying.
