Interview : AXEL BOMAN

WAS : To begin with, can you introduce yourself ?
Axel Boman : Hello! My name is Axel Boman, I'm a Swedish dj/producer living in stockholm and I love mexican food.

WAS : Can you explain how did you come to make music ?
Axel Boman : Originally I was a dj dreaming of making music. then one day I got an offer to buy a sampler and a drum machine and now it has totally taken over my life. I was actually studying art and making music on the side. For whatever reason I though that music didn't have a place in an artschool.. what a fool I was.

WAS : We call you "Rumpa", Where does this nickname come from ?
Axel Boman : Axel means shoulder in sweden.. so people tend to call me other bodyparts. Rumpa means ass. I love that you call me that!

WAS : What is the musical style you find the nearest to yours ?
Axel Boman : House music I guess?

WAS : Which artist(s) inspires you?
Axel Boman : John Maus, James Holden, Kyle Hall, Pär Grindvik, Dj Muggs, Jeff Mills, Timbaland and David Bowie.

WAS : Do you remember the first time you played ?
Axel Boman : No.. That's wierd but I don't. must have been some kind of houseparty though.. probably a party at my friend Victor Ekman's house. his parents used to live in this big villa and they were always away. ahh good times..

WAS : I saw you'll play soon in Paris, is it your first time at Social Club ?
Axel Boman : Yes! My first time there.. Looking forward to it a lot! Last time I was in paris I played at batofar. I liked it a lot and paris never lets you down when it comes to food and drinks either.

WAS : When was your best musical memory ?
Axel Boman : When dj koze said he wanted to release my music.

WAS : Can you tell me more about Studio Barnhus ?
Axel Boman : Studio Barnhus is an actual studio on Barnhusgatan in Stockholm. I share it with Petter and Kornél Kovács. We dj together, make music together, produce music for all kinds of stuff together and have a label together. It's like a production company sometimes and I love working with my best friends.

WAS : What do you do when you don't make music ?
Axel Boman : I cook food! I'm an excellent chef, I worked at restaurants for 10 years. And I drink beer at Morfar Ginko, my favorite Stockholm bar (come there if you're in town!!) and I watch chevy chase movies with my girlfriend.

WAS : Do you have any plans for the future you would like to tell us about ?
Axel Boman : I dream of moving to new york, I'm releasing an album on Glass Table soon, I'm going to start to work out. For real this time!

WAS : The last but not the least, Anything to add ?
Axel Boman : People of the world : Life is to short and beautiful to waste discussing formats, genres and  kickdrums! Cherish our differences and help one another! And lord, please give me Mercedes Benz!
